2012 – Looking Back

Wow, what a year! A lot has happened and there is so much more to come.

I have to admit, in my deep and dark thoughts, I was hoping the world would end on Dec 21st. This is a cruel and thoughtless world we live in – I state this because the holidays is a time of the year when I am so rudely reminded how my own family doesn’t care about anyone other themselves but yet I still went out and purchased gifts for them all, served a lovely dinner in my home, put on a smile and pretended like all was hunky-dory. Thank you world for the respect I receive from the people who are supposed to be the most supportive and loving individuals in my life. However, they don’t matter at the end of the day, only my husband and two cats that are here for me everyday and truly love and support me on my good days and bad days.

Every year I make a list of resolutions – I call it my “accomplishment list”. And every year I complete some and some get pushed to the following year. The 2012 list was almost completed with the exception of one item – run a 5k race. Now this has graced my list for the past two years, and for 2013 it is on the top of my list. The treadmill is ready and by the time its spring where I live (can’t run in knee-deep snow) I’ll be ready for the local marathon. There are other accomplishments listed such as complete the second installment in the Bloodlust Series and travel to another country (haven’t been on a vacation in two years).

With every passing year, new and exciting things happen - let 2013 be the year of truths and adventure.

Yay for Kate!

I am so happy for Kate and William (Duke and Duchess of Cambridge). Their first child - imagine being the woman who is carrying the future King or Queen, a person that will make huge waves in the fabric of history. I am so excited and pray Kate's pregnancy goes well and that she recovers from the horrible morning sickness.

As a writer, I am obsessed with names and find myself on baby names websites all the time. My favorites are Behind the Name and Behind the Surname - both great sites for finding character names. I already have the names picked out for my unborn children – they are deep with meaning and history. Looking forward to what Kate and William pick for their child.

The woes of writer’s block

It has been weeks since I’ve written anything – my fountain of imagination and creativity has dried up, a drought of some sort. Is it my day job? Never stopped me before. Is it that I’ve been feeling especially exhausted and in dire need of a vacation? Maybe. I started the second instalment of the Bloodlust Series in August and successfully completed Part One of the book but now I draw a blank. The characters float in limbo waiting for my direction, their lips partially parted to start their dialogue – at least they’re dressed. Why am I lost on where to begin? I know where I want the story to be at the end of Part Two, the major events, hell I’ve written the finale. A few years back I was in a hypnosis session where I was asked if there was anything I wanted to accomplish in life. I said, “Yes, I want to write.” The hypnotist then said, “every time you open your laptop, may you always write something.” It didn’t work – anything that woman said didn’t work.

how it all started...

Growing up I did not care much for reading or writing - English was my worst subject in school. I remember the first paper I wrote in university - I got a C and cried. It was when I was traveling through California during my second or third year in university that I picked up my first romance novel. The place I was living had no TV and computer so reading was my only form of entertainment. Since I was not a permanent resident, I had no access to the library but there was a small bookshop just outside selling used books for 25 cents. This was where I purchased Prisoner of My Desire by Johanna Lindsey. First, I must explain why I chose to purchase that book. Growing up, my mother would always take my sister and me to the local library. Directly next to the front entrance was a wall of romance novels - I remember hearing my mother tell me not to look upon those books, that to read them was a sin. Well, that day at the lovely small bookshop I decided to sin. Since that day, I was devouring romance novels as a way to escape my mundane life. I maintained my loyalty to Johanna Lindsey reading almost any of her novels I could get my hands on but also read many others from historical to paranormal to anything I found interesting – always drawn to strong female characters and rugged men. It was a few years later, after returning home to Toronto, while sitting on the train that an idea started to form. I tried writing here and there but it wasn't until my husband was deathly ill that in a moment of pure vulnerability I vowed to do it, vowed to create stories for women like myself who need that escape and hope. By the way, my husband recovered and my first novel was dedicated to him.

Bound

This is the first installment in the Bloodlust Series.

Charles, a lone werewolf, mercenary, and rightful heir to the Lykan throne, is sent on a mission to find a ‘prophet’ based on information that this person will stop the rise of an all-powerful army. His mission crosses paths with Lily, the prophet he is looking for but does not know it because she is his fated one — a curse by the gods all Lykans are bound to, the existential quest to find their predestined other half. Charles is torn between finding this ‘prophet’ and finding a way to convince Lily to accept him in her life. Lily, on the other hand, desperately tries to distance herself from the werewolf but cannot resist the control he has over her. A conundrum like no other, Lily must hide her secret while trying to dodge the enemy, find an ancient artifact that will help save the world, and resist the temptation to take what is rightfully hers – Charles. It is a tale of love but also of instinct and a dark, uncontrollable hunger.

Bloodlust Series

A new series that I am working on - first instalment is Bound (published Sept 1, 2012 on Amazon Kindle). Main genre is  paranormal with a mix of fantasy intertwined with the contemporary, and of course lots of romance and lust.

I don't follow any guidelines except my own but I lean towards my studies in fine art and the classics. Each novel will be its own but connected to all - adventure, drama, love, war, hate, and revenge are just a few themes to expect. I anticipate the series to last through a number of books.

I hope you can join me on this amazing adventure!
